Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world Formula One champion, is set to bid farewell to Mercedes and join Ferrari for the 2025 season.

The unexpected decision follows Mercedes’ announcement that Hamilton has invoked a release clause in his contract, making the ongoing season his last with the Silver Arrows.

Lewis Hamilton, whose illustrious career with Mercedes spanned an impressive 11 years, expressed the difficulty of departing from a team that has been a significant part of his life since the age of 13. “I have had an amazing 11 years with this team, and I’m so proud of what we have achieved together. Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old,” said Hamilton, reflecting on his journey with the team.

Ferrari, in response to the surprising move, officially confirmed Hamilton’s arrival on a multi-year contract, where he will partner with Charles Leclerc. The 39-year-old Briton had engaged in discussions with Ferrari in 2019, making this transition a realization of a previously explored possibility.

The announcement came during a meeting at the Mercedes headquarters, where team principal Toto Wolff informed staff about Hamilton’s departure at the end of the 2024 season.
